Hazard Tree Assessment
ACS Consulting (London) will perform tree hazard assessments using the
latest technology.
Fungal
fruit bodies on this Norway Maple are positioned in a way to
indicate that significant decay has developed within the trunk.
Additionally, the host species and the type of fungus (Ganoderma
pfeifferi) indicate the likelihood of a hazard.
A Tomograph can assist us with assessing the extent of internal
wood degradation.

The Tomograph, which uses ultra sonic impulse records to analyse the
structure of wood fibres inside tree parts (trunk, branches and
buttress roots), provides a quick reference to the extent of the
differences of wood make up –
these results must be evaluated expertly and following experience
with using the Tomograph.
Resistogram readings, under scrutiny and an understanding of wood
decay processes and fungal pathogens, can reveal the quality of
internal wood structure and nature of decay in trees. The peaks
indicate high resistance and the troughs the opposite – but this is
relative to the test tree and caution must be applied when selecting
the test point.
